MÊRDÎN – Speaking at the public meeting in Qoser, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Spokesperson Aysegul Dogan said, “Today we are at a new beginning” and emphasized the need to improve the conditions of Abdullah Öcalan.
DEM Party Mêrdîn (Mardin) Provincial Organisation held a public meeting in Qoser (Kızıltepe) district within the Peace and Democratic Society Process. Speaking after a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy, DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan reminded the call made by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February.
Ayşegül Doğan stated that millions of people have been victims in Turkey since the 90s and emphasised that if the demands of the Kurdish people had been fulfilled until now, there would not have been so much suffering.
Emphasising that the existence of Kurds can no longer be denied, Ayşegül Doğan said that the most important tool of struggle in the new era is democratic politics. She stated that they demand a democratic society. "It will not happen by itself. We want no one to be superior to the other. As long as someone is superior, someone will always be in bondage."
'WE ARE AT A NEW BEGINNING'
Pointing out that millions of people recognise Abdullah Öcalan as "leader", Ayşegül Doğan pointed to the process: "Today we are at a new beginning. We are turning a new page."
Ayşegül Doğan criticised provocative discourse and added that constructive criticism is important for them. "We need to know that Mr Öcalan's call is a strategic call. The PKK's decision is strategic," she said.
Stressing that there will be a new meeting in İmralı this week, she emphasised the importance of the commission established in the Parliament. Ayşegül Doğan underlined that the commission should also meet with Öcalan. She underlined that Öcalan’s conditions must be improved.
