ANKARA – Pointing to next week, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party members of the parliamentary commission said: “There will be wiretaps within the scope of the pool of names and institutions to be created. Then the commission will carry out its work on legal arrangements including democratic integration.”

The members of the DEM Party taking part in the "Commission on National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy" established in the Parliament regarding the process made a written statement. In the statement signed by Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Meral Danış Beştaş, Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, Celal Fırat and Cengiz Çiçek, it was stated that opinions on the function, purpose and operation of the commission were shared at the third meeting.

It was stated that the progress of the process and the fulfilment of Parliament’s responsibilities depend on the work of the commission.

In the statement, it was stated that the work carried out so far has taken into consideration the sensitivities of all social segments, and it was emphasised that the parties that are members of the commission face a historical responsibility to create public consent and should act with sensitivity.

It was stressed that the commission will hold hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday next week within the scope of the names and institutions to be formed by the consensus of the members: “All segments who lost their lives during the conflict process, who were victims and who were negatively affected by the process will be listened to in the commission.”

Stating that opinions from legal and academic circles will be taken in order to create a legal and legislative basis, and that work on regulations will be carried out after the hearings the statement reads: “It is of great importance that the proposals for legal regulations aimed at democratisation and needed by the process are discussed and finalised through a comprehensive discussion. Only in this way will democratic politics and social peace be strengthened.”

COMMON FUTURE RESPONSIBILITY

The statement concluded: “It is the responsibility of all of us to re-strengthen brotherhood on the basis of equality on both local and regional grounds, to establish the law of brotherhood, and to build a common future jointly. In this context, we maintain our belief that both our party and the other parties included in the commission will show the necessary inclusiveness, care and courage required by the process.”
